Hygiene

Periodontal Disease

Brushing and flossing daily can be a monotonous task and is easily taken for granted. Daily home care combined with regular dental hygiene visits are key to help you avoid risks that gum disease places on your overall health. It is estimated that about 75% of North Americans have some form of gum disease, which has been linked to serious health complications and causes various dental problems that are often avoidable.

Prevention

If your gums ever bleed when you brush or floss then you have periodontal disease. This disease is painless, degenerative and most importantly, preventable. The need for "just a cleaning" for adults is a myth from the past and our hygienists provide services to help you with your prevention plan.

  • Ultrasonic tartar removal
  • Polishing and fluoride treatment
  • Oral Hygiene instruction and hygiene aids.
  • Periodontal treatment planning

Treatment

Our hygienists have been trained by a wide variety of advanced periodontal programs and offer a host of different options including conventional, laser and pharmaceutical treatment. Each program is tailored to meet your individual needs.

Ultrasonics

Ultrasonic scaling removes calculus and reduces harmful bacteria below the gum line. Ultra sonics are important tools in the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease.
Extensive reviews confirm that while calculus and plaque removal can be performed equally well with manual or power-driven scalers most patients prefer quicker, less sensitive ultrasonics.

If you have a preference, let your hygienist know which type of scaling you prefer.
